First of all, the difficulty of the exam preparation will vary according to the IB Spanish you will write. Be it Spanish Ab Initio, Spanish IB Standard Level or Higher Level, our expertise will make you feel at ease when facing any of the exams.

Regardless of the Spanish IB exam, you are taking, you need to know this essential tricks:

Read all the questions of the exam paper 1 prior to the reading of each of the texts.

You have 1 hour 30 minutes to solve this paper, so time management is very important! You will have questions about four different texts under different formats. It is very important to read the questions first since it will save you time when submitting the answers. This way is more efficient than reading the texts, read the questions and go back to the texts to find the correct answers. Reading the questions first can very likely save you second proofreading, and give you more time for a revision once you have finished all your questions.

Understand the question formats

In the reading paper, questions will come under different formats. You need to understand the way to quickly answer the questions no matter what the format is. For multiple choice questions, you will be able to discard possible answers first. And when reading through the different texts, you will immediately find the right answer. (By the way, usually, longer answers tend to be the right ones, :)). When solving the matching questions or short responses, you will need to be very analytical and do not panic if you cannot come up with the exact answers. Sometimes quoting keywords is better than trying to impress with long sentences. Also, understand the context through key vocabulary will help you get the right answers.

Other question formats such as the true or false and the extended response can be easily faced with the right preparation. You just need to contact us for more information, 🙂

Prepare Vocabulary lists for your SPANISH IB PREPARATION

In order to improve your Spanish IB preparation, you must show how much you know about the selected topics for the exams. The list of topics is always the same, so you do not need to worry about surprises on this side. Although this advice is also useful for paper 1, the vocabulary lists we will prepare with you will help you solve paper 2, where you will need to prepare your writing on 1 of the 5 topics they will propose.

We always suggest to all our students to prepare a good list of broad terms and their synonyms which can apply to any of the topics you select. Besides that list, we will prepare vocabulary lists for each topic with more specific terms. Nouns, adverbs, adjectives, and connectors are essential to spice up your writing, no matter if you choose to write about health, leisure, science, and technology, cultural diversity or traditions.

Make the most of Spanish verb tenses

Spanish verb tenses are very diverse and examiners want to see that you are able to use as many as possible. Not only use a good amount of tenses, but with the right conjugation. We always advise to build up a solid list of general verbs you can use anytime and work on some irregular verbs to make your writings stand from the average.

You must be very careful with the conjugation when alternating the subjects. Remember that not only the verb tenses are important but the past/present/future structures to express different actions are relevant when composing your writings.

And… SUBJUNCTIVE! That painful form all students talk about… You do not need to master this verbal form to score higher at your exam. You simply need to know when to use it and prepare a good list of structures with different tenses for each of the contexts in your writings.

Apply this grammar tricks smartly for any of the writing formats of your paper 2 (blog, letter, email…) and do not hesitate to reach us to get the best insights.
